Urimajalu Ram Bhat no more
Mangaluru, Dec 06, 2021: Urimajalu Ram Bhat, one of the foot soldiers responsible to convert Coastal Karnataka into a bastion of BJP breathed his last today.
Bhat who was 92 died at his residence in Puttur.
Bhat was one of the main leaders responsible for the strengthening of the party in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. He had fought election even when the party did not have any strength in the region.
He contested the election since 1957 but was not disheartened by the defeats. His repeated efforts made him win twice in 1978 (under Janatha Party) and 1983 (BJP) as the MLA of Puttur.
Though a strong BJP leader, he was opposed to ‘intervention’ by ‘outsiders,’ in party affairs. He had openly opposed corruption and ‘intervention.’
Last year Prime Minister Modi had called to enquire about his health.
