Five teams formed to probe Ujire kidnap case

Belthangady, Dec 18, 2020: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police B M Laxmi Prasad has formed five police teams to probe the Bethanangady kidnap case.

An eight-year-old boy Anubhav was kidnapped near Ujire on Thursday evening.

Anubhav is the son of Bijoy, owner of Bijoy Agencies.

What happened:
The boy along with his grandfather A K Shivan had been to a nearby ground to play. Police said that the duo went to the ground near their house daily and returned after some time.

On Thursday around 6.30 pm, they were on their way back. The grandfather was in the front and the child, playing with stones and walking a few feet behind.

A white car (which the grandfather says was an Indica car) suddenly stopped near the boy. A person who got down immediately pulled the boy and gave it to the two sitting behind.
Before the grandfather could understand what was happening, the van fled from the spot.

The complaint-demand for Ransome and investigation:
The family members filed a complaint with the police. The police immediately started a probe and started tracking the van but in vain. Meanwhile, the family members also received a phone call for ransom.

The Ransom:
Sources said that the caller wanted the ransom in Bitcoins. Though they did not specify, it is said that initially, they had asked for 100 coins, and later it is said that they had decreased to 60.

Police investigation:
Superintendent of Police B M Laxmi Prasad visited the house of Bijoy on Friday. He has formed five police teams, headed by Belthangady Sub Inspector, Belthangady Traffic Sub Inspector, Dharmasthala Sub Inspector, Uppinangady Sub Inspector, and DCIB Inspector.

The case is being monitored by Bantwal DySP Valentine D’Souza and Belthangady Inspector Sandesh PG.

Police officials are investigating the case from all angles. They are collecting details about the business history of Bijoy and also if they have suspicion on anybody.
