Orange Alert: Udupi Declares Holiday for Schools, PU Students on July 25
Udupi, July 24, 2026: The Udupi district administration has declared a holiday for all Anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and high schools, pre-university colleges, diploma institutions and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) on Saturday, July 25, 2026, following an Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting intensified rainfall across the district.
The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate under Sections 26, 30 and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, based on the IMD’s weather forecast issued on Friday.

The administration said the district has been receiving continuous rainfall over the past few days and, in view of the forecast of heavy rain, the holiday has been declared as a precautionary measure in the interest of students’ safety.
However, degree, postgraduate and engineering colleges will remain open, and no holiday has been declared for students of these institutions.
The district administration has, however, issued a set of safety guidelines to colleges that will remain functional. Student attendance should not be made compulsory, and college authorities have been directed to ensure that students can travel safely to and from their campuses.
Students who have to cross streams, rivulets or other difficult routes to reach college should be advised to remain at home if travel is unsafe. Colleges have also been instructed not to conduct classes in dilapidated or structurally weak buildings and to inspect campus infrastructure to prevent any untoward incidents.
To compensate for the academic hours lost due to rain-related holidays, institutions have been advised to conduct additional classes on Saturday afternoons or Sundays, wherever necessary.
The administration has further instructed parents and college authorities to ensure that students do not visit waterlogged low-lying areas, lakes, riverbanks or seashores. Institutions have also been asked to ensure the safety of vehicles transporting students and to educate students about disaster preparedness and response.
The district administration has appealed to the public to remain vigilant and follow all safety advisories during the period of heavy rainfall. It has also advised citizens to contact the district emergency helpline in case of any rain- or disaster-related emergencies.
