 Heavy rain forecast: Few taluks in Dakshina Kannada declare holiday for schools, PU colleges

Mangaluru, Aug 28, 2025: Following the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) forecast of continued heavy rainfall, the Mangaluru Taluk Disaster Management Authority has announced precautionary measures, including a holiday for all Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary & high schools, and pre-university colleges (up to class 12) in Mangaluru taluk on August 28, 2025.

The taluk administration has also directed officials to identify potential flood and landslide-prone areas and take necessary precautions. Public and tourists have been advised not to visit low-lying areas, ponds, riverbanks, or beaches.

In case of any natural disaster-related incidents or alerts, the public has been asked to immediately inform the concerned panchayat or urban local body.

Puttur taluk also declares holiday for schools

With heavy rainfall continuing since yesterday in Puttur taluk, the administration, after discussions with the Block Education Officer (BEO), has declared a holiday on August 28 for Anganwadi centres, government primary and high schools, and private educational institutions (primary and high schools).

Holiday has been declared for schools in Ullal, Moodabidri and Mulky Taluks also.
