Mangaluru, Aug. 18, 2025: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) forecasting a cyclonic storm due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal, the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has issued precautionary measures and declared a holiday for all educational institutions.

According to the order, all Anganwadi centres, primary and high schools, government, aided, and private educational institutions in the district will remain closed on August 18, 2025.

Parents have been advised not to allow children to venture into waterlogged areas, ponds, riversides, or the seashore during the heavy rains. Fishermen have been strictly warned not to venture into the sea.

The circular further directs district- and taluk-level officials to remain stationed at their respective headquarters and respond promptly to public grievances. Officials have also been instructed to maintain continuous contact with the district control room.

Tourists and the general public have been urged to avoid visiting riverbanks and coastal areas. Every taluk has been directed to set up care centres and keep them on alert to handle emergencies.

For any disaster-related issues, people may contact the district emergency toll-free number 1077 or 0824-2442590, which will remain functional round the clock.
