Mangaluru, June 27, 2025: A progress review meeting of various women and child development schemes implemented under the Mangaluru Taluk jurisdiction was held on Friday at the Taluk Office under the chairmanship of Grade 2 Tahsildar Rafique Chowdhury.

During the meeting, the Tahsildar instructed officials to expedite the disposal of pending applications for the Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards. He also directed concerned authorities to ensure swift resolution of cases filed under the Domestic Violence Act.

Highlighting the importance of inter-departmental coordination, he urged the police department to promptly inform the Women and Child Development Department in cases related to human trafficking, dowry harassment, child marriage, substance abuse, or domestic violence involving women and children.

Regarding the transgender community residing in the Mangaluru region, the Tahsildar emphasized the need for all individuals to compulsorily obtain identity cards. He noted that many members of the transgender community live in rented accommodations and lack land ownership. He suggested that they formally submit their requests for land and employment to the relevant authorities.

Shaila K. Kari, Child Development Project Officer for Mangaluru (Rural), informed the meeting that under the Bhagyalakshmi and Sukanya Samriddhi schemes, 154 eligible beneficiaries have been identified and registered for the year 2024–25. She also noted that under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, a financial assistance of ₹5,000 is provided to first-time pregnant women, while ₹6,000 is provided in case of a second girl child. She confirmed that the benefits are directly credited to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts after proper verification.

Officials from the District Child Protection Unit briefed the gathering on the child protection mechanisms in place and the functioning of the Child Helpline number 1098.

The meeting was attended by Chandrika, Inspector from the Women’s Development Corporation, Police Officer Naveen, and officials from various departments.
