SDM College to Host National Seminar on Media Professionalism and Challenges

Ujire, March 12, 2025: A two-day national seminar on “Media Professionalism and Contemporary Challenges” will be held on March 13 and 14 at SDM College, Ujire, in collaboration with the Karnataka Media Academy. The event is jointly organized by the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Journalism and Mass Communication Department, Digital Media, and Film Making B.Voc Degree Section of the college.

The seminar will be inaugurated at 9 AM on March 13 at the Samyakdarshan Auditorium by Sanjay S. Gowda, President of Shirad Vardhaman Public School and an education expert. Dr. Satishchandra S., Secretary of SDM Educational Institutions, will be the chief guest. Ayesha Khanum, President of Karnataka Media Academy, and Sahana M., Secretary of the Academy, will also be present. Prof. Vishwanath P., Principal of SDM College, will preside over the event.

Expert Sessions and Panel Discussions

• First session: Karnataka Media Academy President Ayesha Khanum will present the keynote address on “Government and Private Broadcast Journalism: Challenges and Innovations” and interact with students.
• Second session (2:30 PM): Senior journalist and YouTuber Subhash Hugar will moderate a discussion on “The Fourth Pillar” with panelists including:
  • Shivakumar, Bureau Chief, The New Indian Express (Mysuru)
  • Jayant Kodkani, Senior Journalist
  • Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, Former Principal, SDM College
  • Shailesh Kumar, Head of Computer Science Department
• Research Paper Presentation (4 PM – 5 PM): Moderated by Dr. Satish Kumar Andinje, Professor, Journalism and Mass Communication, Kuvempu University.

Day 2: Research Presentations and Valedictory Ceremony

On March 14, parallel research paper presentation sessions will be held, coordinated by:

• Dr. Vahini Aravind, Associate Professor, Bangalore University
• Dr. N. Mamatha, Professor, University of Mysore

Researchers, faculty members, and postgraduate students from Karnataka and other states will present their papers.

The valedictory ceremony at 3:30 PM will feature a closing speech by Puran Verma, Chief Operating Officer, IT & Hostel Administration, SDM Educational Institutions. Prof. Sridhar N. Bhat, Administrative Secretary of SDM College, will preside over the event.

Competitions and Media Fest

A series of competitions will be organized under the theme “Media Parva”, including:

• Reels Making
• Short Film Production
• Quiz
• Live News Anchoring
• Dance Varieties

Students from various universities, prestigious undergraduate and postgraduate institutions across Karnataka will participate in these events.
