Udupi, Feb 06, 2025: Udupi’s spiritual heart resonated with devotion and grandeur as the sacred Madhva Navami celebrations unfolded at Sri Krishna Matha and other places related to Sri Madhvacharya. Under the leadership of Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Sripadaru and Sri Sushreendra Tirtha Sripadaru, the festival was marked by elaborate rituals, soulful recitations, and deep reverence for Acharya Madhva in Udupi.
The festivities commenced at the historic Sri Ananteshwara Temple, where Acharya Madhva’s divine presence is deeply revered. The temple and Sri Krishna Matha were adorned with intricate floral decorations, enhancing the spiritual ambiance.
Rituals and Recitations Elevate the Festivities
One of the highlights of the celebration was the mass recitation of sacred texts by hundreds of Brahmin devotees in the sanctum of Acharya Madhva at Sri Ananteshwara Temple. As the air reverberated with the rhythmic chants, the Paryaya seers performed the Madhu Abhisheka while reciting Vayustuti Parayana, invoking divine blessings.
The dual seers of Sri Puthige Matha led the Maha Pooja, followed by the offering of Dandodaka to Acharya Madhva. The spiritual atmosphere was further elevated as Dr. Aralu Mallige Parthasarathi led the Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana, accompanied by a chorus of scholars at the Madhva Mantapa of Sri Krishna Matha.
A Gathering of Devotees and Spiritual Leaders
The celebrations included Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana, bhajans, and other religious programs, culminating in the much-awaited Anna Santarpane, where thousands of devotees were served prasad.
The event was graced by key dignitaries of Sri Putige Matha, including Diwan Sri Nagaraja Acharya, Secretary Prasanna Acharya, Mahitosh Acharya, Ratish Tantri, Vishnu Murthy, Vidwan Gopal Acharya, Ramesh Bhat, and Ravindra Acharya. Members of the Tulu Shivalli Madhva Brahmana Mahasabha, representatives of various Brahmin associations, and a large number of devotees from across the region gathered to witness and partake in the grand celebrations.
A striking feature of the celebration was the special Acharya Madhva Alankara for Lord Hanuman at Sri Krishna Matha, honoring Acharya Madhva as an incarnation of Sri Mukhyaprana. Devotees marveled at the intricate Alankara, which reflected the deep-rooted traditions of the Matha.
Adding to the devotional fervor, the junior seer of Putige Matha performed the Sri Gopalakrishna Alankara for Lord Krishna, illuminating the sanctum with the divine glow of Mangalarati. This was followed by the Paryaya seer’s Maha Pooja, drawing devotees into a spiritually uplifting experience.

Madhva Navami Celebrations at Madhyavatha and Pajaka Kshetra

The sacred Madhyavatha (Nadwantaadi) Matha, a site where Sri Madhvacharya performed his Madhyahna Pooja en route to Subramanya, also witnessed grand celebrations. Sri Vishwavallabha Thirtha Swamiji of Sri Sode Vadiraja Matha performed special poojas to Lord Sri Vedavyasa (Vyasamurthi), Lord Sri Mukhyaprana, and Sri Bhootharaja on this auspicious occasion.

At Pajaka Kshetra, the birth place of Sri Acharya, the sacred Panchamrita Abhisheka was performed for the idol of Jagadguru Sriman Madhvacharya, which was consecrated by Sri Vadiraja Gurusarvabhouma. Additionally, the Samsthana Puja of Lord Narasimha and the Poornahuti of the Rik Samhita Yaga, followed by the Avabhrita Snana, were conducted with great devotion.
The event was led by Sri Vidyavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru of Kaniyoor Matha.
