Case Against Building Owner, Engineer for Construction Flaws: Mangaluru City Corporation
Mangaluru, Nov. 22, 2024: In light of recent incidents in several cities across the state where buildings have collapsed due to construction without proper permits or violations of approved plans—resulting in loss of lives—the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has issued strict guidelines to ensure compliance with construction norms.
Before commencing any construction within MCC limits, soil testing is mandatory, and designs must be prepared by qualified engineers. Builders must obtain building permits as per the zoning regulations and adhere strictly to approved designs while using quality materials to ensure structural integrity.
The MCC Commissioner has warned that any flaws in construction or violations of approved plans—such as adding unauthorized floors—leading to building collapse and loss of lives will result in legal action against the building owner, engineer, and contractor responsible.
