MAHE Unveils ‘COVID-19 Pandemic: Insights from Managing the Crisis in a Teaching Hospital’
Manipal, Nov 15, 2024: Manipal Universal Press (MUP), a unit of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), launched the book COVID-19 Pandemic: Insights from Managing the Crisis in a Teaching Hospital on Thursday.
Authored by Jibu Thomas, Associate Director – Operations at Kasturba Hospitals, the book offers an in-depth account of the hospital’s adaptive strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The book was unveiled by Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor of MAHE, who highlighted its importance as a chronicle of Kasturba Hospital’s transformation into a dedicated COVID-19 treatment center. “This book documents the journey of managing the pandemic, serving as a valuable guide for future health emergencies,” he said.
Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor of MAHE, praised the book for capturing the extraordinary efforts of healthcare professionals during unprecedented times, describing it as both an inspiration and a learning resource.
Author Jibu Thomas noted that the book, his second publication, documents the operational challenges faced by Kasturba and TMA Pai Hospitals during the pandemic, along with the policy adaptations that guided their successful response.
Dr Srinivasa Acharya, Chief Editor (in Charge) at MUP, welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that the book is MUP’s 294th publication and reflects MAHE’s commitment to documenting critical healthcare milestones.
The event, held in Manipal, was attended by senior leaders, including Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences; Dr Narayana Sabhahit, Pro Vice Chancellor of Technology and Science; and Dr P Giridhar Kini, Registrar, along with a host of distinguished academicians and healthcare professionals.
