Mangaluru, Oct 15, 2024: Sangeetha Bharathi Foundation will organize a grand Hindustani classical music concert on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 5.30 PM at the Town Hall in Mangalore. The event will feature renowned artists performing live for music enthusiasts.

The highlight of the evening will be a performance by internationally acclaimed flautist Pandit Rakesh Chaurasia, known for his mastery of the bansuri. He will be accompanied by Mumbai’s celebrated tabla artist Ojas Adhiya. Following this, the audience will be treated to a sitar recital by the famous Pandit Purbayan Chatterjee, who will be supported by tabla maestro Satyajit Talwalkar, also from Mumbai.

This Hindustani classical music concert is being sponsored by Canara Bank, with co-sponsors including Ideal Ice Cream, MRPL, and State Bank of India. The event is a rare and special opportunity for music lovers to witness such an exceptional performance by veteran artists who have performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages.

Speaking about the event, Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, Vice President of Sangeetha Bharathi, encouraged music lovers, teachers, and students to attend this unique concert, as entry is free.

About the Artists:

Pandit Rakesh Chaurasia
One of India’s finest bansuri (flute) players, Rakesh Chaurasia is the nephew of the legendary flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Indian Music Academy Award from former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in 2007, the Aditya Birla Kalakiran Award in 2008, and the Guru Shishya Award in 2011. His collaborative music album As We Speak won two Grammy Awards.

Pandit Purbayan Chatterjee
A leading sitar player in India, Pandit Purbayan Chatterjee learned sitar from his father, Partha Pratim Chatterjee. In 1995, he was honored with the Aditya Vikram Birla Award, and at the age of 15, he was recognized as the best instrumentalist in the country by the President of India. In 2013, he gained international attention for composing Tomake Chai Bole Banchi (I live because I long for you), the official song for Kolkata, collaborating with prominent artists like Srijato and Bikram Ghosh.
