Udupi: Blood Donation Camp Held to Mark National Forest Martyrs’ Day
Udupi, Sept 11, 2024: In a move to make the National Forest Martyrs’ Day more meaningful, a massive blood donation camp was organized today at the Town Hall in Udupi. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage the public to contribute to this life-saving cause.
Inaugurating the event, Kundapura Deputy Conservator of Forest Ganapathi K stressed the significance of voluntary blood donation, urging citizens to lead by example. “Blood donation plays a crucial role in saving lives during emergencies, whether from accidents or severe illnesses. It is essential to raise public awareness about the importance of donating blood and inspire more people to get involved,” he said.
The event, organized in collaboration with the Karnataka State Sub-Division Forest Officers’ Association (R), the Forest Guards and Watchers’ Association (R), and the Udupi District Government Hospital Blood Bank, saw enthusiastic participation from various sections of society.
District Surgeon Dr. H Ashok lauded Udupi district’s reputation in blood donation efforts. “Our district has set a benchmark in blood donation, with our blood banks serving as an example for the rest of the state. Blood is critical during emergencies, and donating it is an honorable way to contribute to saving lives,” he said.
Sivaram Babu M, Deputy Conservator of Forest of Karkala Kudremukh Wildlife Division, highlighted the long-standing efforts of the association, which has been organizing blood donation camps for over 24 years. He called for continued efforts to serve as a model for society through similar initiatives.
Other dignitaries at the event included Dr. Veena Kumari, Medical Officer of the Blood Bank; Dinkar Shetty Amparu, President of the Government Employees Association; Prakash Chandra, Honorary President of the Karnataka State Sub-Division Forest Officers’ Association; and H. Devaraj Paan, Honorary President of the Karnataka State Forest Guards and Watchers’ Association.
Karunakar J. Acharya weclomed the gathering, Prashanth Havanaje compered and Jayaram E delivered the vote of thanks.
