Udupi, Aug 20, 2024: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great fervor at Silas International School and Silas PU College, Nitturu, NH-66, Udupi. The event was presided over by the school’s Management Trustee, Mrs. Sharlet Maben.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Shrinath Rao K, Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Srinivas University Institute of Engineering & Technology (SUIET), Mangaluru, hoisted the National Flag. He also witnessed the march past performed by students from Class 6 to 10 and PU.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Shrinath Rao emphasized the importance of practicing Indian values and contributing selflessly to society and the nation. He offered a historical overview of the 200-year Indian freedom struggle, urging the nation to remain grateful for the sacrifices of the freedom fighters. He also spoke about the various ways individuals can contribute to the nation, promoting the ideals of patriotism, nationalism, and how India can emerge as a global leader (Vishwa Guru). He encouraged students to become responsible citizens and ambassadors of Indian culture, values, and heritage on an international platform.

Ms. Saanvi, a student, delivered the welcome address, Principal Ms. Jecintha D’Costa provided the keynote speech. The school choir performed the invocation, and faculty member Ms. Valita Paquita Lobo introduced the Chief Guest. The vote of thanks was delivered by student Shamanth Naik, with Rajosma and Nityashri steering the event as Masters of Ceremony.

Following the parade, cultural activities centered around the themes of nationalism and patriotism were conducted, with students receiving certificates of appreciation for their performances. The program concluded with the active participation of the Principal of Silas PU College, Dr. Annapurna, faculty members, staff, and students.
