Karwar, August 14, 2024: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya emphasized the importance of educating children about the history of India’s freedom struggle in every household and school. She stressed that parents and teachers have the responsibility to instill in children the significance of independence.

Speaking on Wednesday at the launch of the “Walkathon” event under the “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative, organized as part of India’s 78th Independence Day celebrations, she said, “Today’s youth and children must understand how we achieved independence, the struggles that took place, and the sacrifices made by millions of freedom fighters. It is crucial for parents and teachers to raise awareness among children about the importance of independence and the Constitution of India.”

The event, jointly organized by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat Uttara Kannada, Kannada and Culture Department, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Police Department, and Karwar Bicycle Club, saw participation from various departments and over 300 individuals, including students from local schools and colleges. The participants held the national flag and chanted slogans as they walked through the city’s main streets.

The Walkathon began from the Deputy Commissioner’s office and concluded at Rabindranath Tagore Beach. Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya, Zilla Panchayat CEO Ishwar Kumar Kandoo, District Superintendent of Police Narayan, Assistant Deputy Commissioner Prakash Rajput, City Commissioner Jagadeesh, and several district-level officials and staff members participated in the event.

The administration also organized a rangoli competition at the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises, where attractive rangolis were displayed.

Deputy Commissioner Lakshmipriya further announced that the district administration would honor the staff who performed exceptionally well during the recent natural calamities at the district-level Independence Day function on August 15.
