Enhancing Passenger Safety and Comfort: Palakkad Division’s Efforts Against Unauthorized Travel and Overcrowding in Trains
Mangaluru, June 18, 2024: In an effort to address the pressing issues of unauthorized travel and overcrowding in trains, the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway has embarked on a series of robust measures. These initiatives are designed to ensure the safety, comfort, and regulatory compliance of passengers.
The Palakkad Division has intensified its operations to combat unauthorized travel and overcrowding. Joint teams consisting of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and commercial staff are conducting random checks on trains notorious for these issues. On average, these teams inspect around six trains daily within the division’s jurisdiction.
Eight specific trains have been identified as being particularly susceptible to overcrowding and unauthorized travel. These include: 1. Train No.16346; 2. Train No. 12602; 3. Train No. 12686. 4. Train No. 16630; 5. Train No. 16603; 6. Train No. 16528; 7. Train No. 16348; 8. Train No. 22852 (operating weekly) These trains are now accompanied by RPF and commercial staff within the Palakkad Division. This strategy is aimed at deterring unauthorized boarding and ensuring that reserved compartments are occupied solely by ticket holders.
The division’s proactive approach has yielded positive results. As of the latest reports, approximately 373 individuals have been identified as unauthorized travelers and have been removed from reserved compartments in recent months.
This action not only enhances the travel experience for legitimate passengers but also reinforces adherence to railway regulations. While progress has been made, the dynamic nature of unauthorized travel presents ongoing challenges. The Palakkad Division remains dedicated to addressing these through continuous monitoring, public awareness campaigns, and enhanced collaboration among RPF, commercial staff, and the traveling public.
The initiatives undertaken by the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway exemplify a proactive stance towards ensuring orderly and safe train travel. By conducting regular inspections, escorting targeted trains, and enforcing compliance, the division is committed to providing a superior travel experience. The division has urged the public to refrain from boarding the reserved class compartments without a proper ticket and causing difficulties to the reserved passengers.
