Aligned with the WED 2024 theme—land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience—the airport’s activities emphasized environmental stewardship. Passengers arriving on an afternoon flight from Mumbai received saplings of the esteemed Shankarapura Jasmine. This local jasmine variety, renowned for its fragrance and Geographical Indication tag, is highly valued for auspicious and religious ceremonies.
Various airport stakeholders, including Customs, CISF, airline personnel, ground handling agencies, and airport staff, collaborated to plant approximately 50 saplings. The species planted included Mimusops elengi (Renje), Michelia champa (Champa or Sampige), Bauhinia blackeana, Saraca Ashoka, and Nyctanthes arbor-tristis. These plants were sourced internally from the airport’s central nursery, which was inaugurated on June 1 in preparation for WED.

Additionally, a ‘pledge wall’ was installed on the first floor of the domestic security hold area, inviting passengers to commit to environmental preservation. Passengers showed their support by signing the pledge wall. Young travelers also participated in a drawing activity themed around WED, allowing them to express their vision for a sustainable future through art.
