Udupi, Jan 21, 2024: Addressing the pressing issue of endosulfan and its impact on the community, Kapu MLA Suresh Shetty Gurme emphasized the need for collective efforts to instill courage and strength in those affected. He underscored that an empowered society is crucial in facing challenges like endosulfan, which can otherwise result in dire consequences.

Speaking at the event where physiotherapy equipment was handed over to Hiriyadka Primary Health Centre (PHC) by Genesis Packaging Pvt, Hiriyadka and One Good Step, Gurme highlighted the unfortunate situation where current endosulfan victims bear the consequences of a mistake made by someone in society years ago. He stressed the importance of providing quality medical treatment to these individuals.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidya Kumari echoed the need for better facilities, particularly emphasizing the demand for physiotherapy among endosulfan sufferers. She suggested the construction of endosulfan wards in local areas, considering the difficulties faced by rural residents in accessing urban healthcare.

Dr. Vidyakumari encouraged not only endosulfan victims but also the broader community to utilize the physiotherapy facility. Stressing the importance of cleanliness in the wards, she urged local residents to take advantage of this resource in the future.

Amitha Pai, Director of One Good Step, delivered introductory remarks, and the function was presided over by Jayanthi Shetty, the President of Bommarabettu Gram Panchayat.
