 Nursery Set to Bloom in District Prison

Mangaluru, Jan 10, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan has announced plans to establish a nursery within the district prison premises, aimed at fostering the cultivation and sale of saplings.

The announcement came during the ‘Samskrutika Saurabh’ event, organized by the Department of Kannada and Culture, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority at the District Prison on Wednesday.

Commending the inmates for their efforts in nurturing a diverse range of plants and trees within the jail premises, Muhilan highlighted the abundance of vegetables, fruits, and trees that have thrived under their care.

The proactive support of jail authorities in promoting such initiatives was acknowledged, with plans underway to set up a nursery on-site and facilitate the sale of trees and plants. The Deputy Commissioner also stated that the Municipal Corporation will be asked to allocate suitable space for this purpose.

Shobha BG, Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, commended the cultural program’s role in positively influencing the minds of the prisoners.

Padma Shri Harekala Hajabba was feliciated on the occasion. The ceremony was attended by District Prison Superintendent BT Obaleshappa, District Information Officer BA Khader Shah, journalist Harsha, and prison security officers Bharat Nayak and Subhash. Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director Rajesh G welcomed the gathering.
