Mangaluru International Airport and IndiGo Innovate Passenger Disembarkation Experience
Mangaluru, Dec 13, 2023: Mangaluru International Airport and IndiGo experimented on an aviation sector-new approach to passenger disembarkation, by innovating on the airline’s distinctive ‘Three-Point Disembarkation System’ on December 6.
Spearheaded by the airport’s airside operations team, the system utilized a passenger boarding bridge and two ramps, instead of the three-ramp setup (two forward and one rear) employed by IndiGo in this system.
IndiGo marked a significant milestone in the global aviation sector by introducing this groundbreaking system on its 16th anniversary. The airline first successfully implemented the three-point disembarkation at Mangaluru International Airport on June 14, 2023, using three ramps. On the recent occasion, flight 6E 6162 arriving from Bengaluru with 227 passengers demonstrated the new system, docking with passenger boarding bridge 10. The airline ground staff seamlessly attached two ramps—one forward and one at the rear—to facilitate the swift disembarkation of passengers.
“The airport is committed to elevating the passenger experience and is eager to collaborate on innovative ideas brought forth by airline partners,” affirmed the airport spokesperson. This collaboration aligns with the airport’s promoters’ vision to play a pivotal role in nation-building, enhancing airline partners’ operational efficiencies, punctuality, and on-time performance.
IndiGo initially implemented this novel disembarkation procedure on its A320 and A321 fleet for flights arriving at remote stands in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru airports in August 2022. Subsequently, the airline progressively extended the use of this system across its network. Cabin crew members make necessary announcements to inform passengers about the operational status of this disembarkation system upon arrival at their respective destinations.
