Udupi, Nov 29, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Dr. K Vidya Kumari inaugurated the District Police Annual Sports Meet at Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium in Ajjarkadu today.

The event, organized by the Police Department, aimed to provide a day of respite from the daily pressures of law enforcement and foster a sense of camaraderie among the participants.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Dr. K Vidya Kumari emphasized the importance of sports in achieving both physical and mental fitness. She highlighted the need for a competitive spirit in sports, where the experience of winning and losing is embraced equally. Recognizing the daily challenges faced by the officers and staff, she asserted that dedicating a day to sports activities would not only boost morale but also serve as a stress-reliever.

Dr. Vidya Kumari encouraged active participation in the competition, emphasizing that the spirit of sportsmanship transcends the outcome. Regardless of victory or defeat, she stressed the significance of everyone engaging with a sporting spirit.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Prasanna H added his perspective, noting that sports instill a spirit of compatibility and can extend beyond conventional athletic activities. He suggested that even practices like Pranayama could be considered as sports, promoting the idea that daily involvement in sports contributes to an active lifestyle.

The event commenced with a vibrant parade featuring various teams, and the sports torch was officially received. Officers and staff from various police stations attended the ceremony, showcasing unity and solidarity within the law enforcement community.

District Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K welcomed the gathering, acknowledging the importance of such events in fostering a sense of community among the officers. The anchoring duties were expertly handled by Yogesh Naik, while ASP S.T. Siddalingappa proposed the vote of thanks
