DC Mullai Muhilan Demands Prompt Action on Atrocity Cases
Mangaluru, Nov 16, 2023: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP has issued a directive to officials to address cases of atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes with utmost seriousness and prompt action.
The directive was given at the district vigilance and monitoring committee meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s office auditorium on Thursday.
In an effort to streamline the process, the DC stressed the swift sanctioning of compensation amounts in cases of atrocities. Departing from the conventional requirement of producing a caste certificate, he instructed the social welfare department to collect the RD number for verification purposes and expedite the compensation disbursement.
At the taluk level, Muhilan proposed monthly awareness committee meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month to address issues concerning Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
He underscored the urgency of responding promptly to the grievances of these communities, emphasizing coordinated efforts by authorities in cases of atrocities to provide timely support to the victims. He cautioned against treating any cases of atrocities lightly and emphasized that providing compensation should not be the sole responsibility of the department.
The DC called for the prompt issuance of caste certificates to avoid delays that could hinder access to various schemes. He directed officials to take preventive measures to ensure such delays do not recur in the future.
The meeting was attended by ZP CEO Dr. Anandh K, Additional DC Dr. Santhosh, MCC Commissioner Anand, Public Prosecutor Jyothi, and other officials.
