Udupi, October 06, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vidya Kumari emphasized the importance of vaccination programs conducted under the Indradhanush Abhiyan in enhancing the immunity of children and pregnant women.

Dr. Vidya Kumari conveyed these remarks after presiding over a meeting of the district-level vaccination task force, focused on the third phase of the Mission Indradhanush 5.0 vaccination program. The meeting took place at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Rajathadri, Manipal.

The Indradhanush campaign, now in its third phase nationwide, has already completed the first and second phases successfully. The third phase is scheduled from October 9 to 14.

During the first phase, the goal was to vaccinate 3,212 children, with 3,208 receiving the vaccine, achieving an impressive 99.72 percent success rate. Additionally, all 708 targeted pregnant women were successfully vaccinated, attaining a perfect 100 percent.

In the second round, 2,173 children were vaccinated against a target of 1,870, marking a remarkable 116 percent achievement. Similarly, in vaccinating pregnant women, the campaign surpassed its target. With the aim to vaccinate 335 women, an impressive 439 were vaccinated, achieving a notable 131 percent.

In this third phase, the target is to vaccinate 1,447 children and 260 pregnant women.

Dr. Vidya Kumari stressed that all eligible children and pregnant women should have access to vaccines under the Indradhanush campaign. Parents who may be hesitant about vaccinating their children should be encouraged to do so without fail, aiming for 100 percent vaccination coverage.

She further emphasized the importance of collecting information on non-vaccination from anganwadis and schools. Building trust and cooperation with anganwadi workers, teachers, and parents will be pivotal in ensuring the success of the program.

The Indradhanush program encompasses vaccinations against diseases like measles, whooping cough, polio, and more. Dr. Vidya Kumari urged health workers to educate the public about the long-term benefits of vaccination.

She instructed the Child Development Project Officers and the Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department to closely oversee the Indradhanush campaign.

The meeting was attended by District Family Welfare Officer Dr. K. Ram Rao, District RCH Officer Prashanth Ganapathi Bhat, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department Shyamala C., Karkala Taluk Health Officer Premananda, Dr. Arun, District Level Implementing Officers, and others.
