Uttara Kannada DC Pledges Action on Anganwadi Workers’ Demands
Karwar, September 8, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Gangu Bai Manakar has affirmed the administration’s commitment to addressing the legitimate demands of anganwadi workers in the district in a phased approach.
She made this commitment while presiding over a grievance meeting organized by the Women and Child Development Department at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here today.
Recognizing that certain demands of anganwadi workers necessitate decisions at the governmental level, she affirmed that a letter will be drafted to the government to address these concerns. In addition, Deputy Commissioner emphasized that anganwadis are authorized to undertake projects for constructing drinking water facilities, toilets, and compounds under MGNREGA. She directed the officials concerned to provide a comprehensive report on anganwadis lacking these essential amenities.
Steps were urged to enhance attendance rates of children at anganwadis. She underscored the importance of offering nutritious meals to children and emphasized the prohibition of expired items.
Yamuna Gaonkar, the district president of the anganwadi workers’ association, appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to extend efforts to all talukas, addressing grievances related to anganwadis and seeking their resolution.
The meeting was attended by Women and Child Development Department Deputy Director H.H. Kukanoor, along with Child Development Project Officers and anganwadi workers.
