Free Bone Mineral Density Camp at Dr TMA Pai Hospital on Aug 29
Udupi, Aug 27, 2023: In an endeavor to raise awareness about bone health and facilitate early detection of osteoporosis, a free Bone Mineral Density Camp is scheduled to take place at Dr. T.M.A. Pai Hospital in Udupi on August 29.
Dr. Shashikiran Umakanth, the Medical Superintendent at the Hospital announced that the camp to be held at the Department of Orthopaedics will be operational from 9 am to 3 pm.
The program is ideally designed for individuals aged 40 and above who are keen on understanding their bone health status. A limited capacity of 100 participants will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested participants can secure their spot by registering promptly. Osteoporosis, a silent yet critical condition characterized by brittle and fragile bones susceptible to fractures, is often overlooked due to a lack of awareness. Dr. Rajaram Pai, Head of the Department of Orthopedics at the Hospital, stressed that while osteoporosis is most prevalent among postmenopausal women, lack of awareness remains a significant hurdle in its diagnosis.
Diagnosis of osteoporosis is facilitated through a non-invasive technique called Bone Mineral Density, which provides valuable insights into bone density levels. Following diagnosis, expert advice on management strategies is provided to patients. Women, especially those aged 50 and above, are encouraged to undergo the BMD Test to assess their bone density and take proactive measures to ensure skeletal health.
