Udupi DC Urges Parents to Ensure Timely Vaccination for Children
Udupi, Aug 4, 2024: Dr. K Vidya Kumari, the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi, emphasized the importance of parents providing necessary vaccines to their children within the stipulated time to safeguard them against various diseases.
Speaking at a press conference on the Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 (IMI 5.0) vaccination programme, held at the deputy commissioner’s office auditorium on Friday, Dr K. Vidya Kumari highlighted the significance of regular vaccinations for pregnant women and children to effectively prevent maternal and infant mortality, in accordance with the health department’s guidelines.
On this occasion, the DC will release a poster promoting the program’s effectiveness.
She encouraged parents to stay informed about universal vaccination programs through their nearest health centers, ASHA, and Anganwadi workers, and ensure their children receive the necessary vaccinations.
The district is gearing up to conduct the Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 vaccination program in three rounds. The first round will take place from August 7 to 12, followed by the second round from September 11 to 16, and the final round from October 9 to 14. Vaccination camps will be organized during these rounds for eligible pregnant women and children aged 0-5 years who are yet to receive their vaccines.
The aim of the Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 vaccination program is to immunize 708 pregnant women and 3188 children aged 0-2 years, along with 16 unvaccinated children in the age group of 2-5 years in the district. A total of 294 vaccination centers have been identified to facilitate the program’s smooth implementation.
The vaccination camp’s objective is to bolster immunity among pregnant women and children in the district and bridge the gap in measles rubella immunization. To ensure the program’s success, Asha and Anganwadi workers will inform parents about the camp’s dates and locations, with the collaboration of various departments, including education, women and child development, municipal corporation, rural development, and panchayati raj.
The Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 vaccination program’s inauguration is scheduled for August 7 at 9 am at the Women and Children’s Hospital in Udupi.
