Deputy Commissioner’s Team to Address Grievances at Taluks Weekly
Mangaluru, August 02: In a move to reduce the need for people from rural areas to travel to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to resolve their issues and grievances, a team of officials led by the Deputy Commissioner will be visiting every taluk once a week.
This initiative was announced by Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan during the Meet the Press event organized by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union at Mangaluru Press Club on Wednesday.
This program is set to commence from next week, with one designated day each week being allocated for the taluk visits. The team of district administration officials will first visit the designated taluk headquarters to address any prevailing problems. The Deputy Commissioner will then join the team, aiming to directly engage with the people at the taluk level and promptly resolve their concerns. The program will later be extended to the hobli level to cover a wider range of areas.
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan mentioned that a meeting of the Road Transport Authority would be convened soon to discuss transport-related matters. He assured that joint review meetings with NH (National Highway) officials and MCC (Mangaluru City Corporation) officials would be conducted to address issues like potholes and drainage on national highways and roads within the city limits.
The complex issue of classifying revenue and forest land in rural taluks, including Mangaluru taluk, will be carefully examined within the district. The administration will try to conduct a special study and team utilizing GPS technology to identify forest and revenue land accurately.
Regarding infrastructure development in new taluks such as Mulki, Ullal, Kadaba, and Moodabidri, the revenue department has received information to provide the necessary basic amenities. The Deputy Commissioner assured that facilities would be made available at taluk centers soon.
The DC said that Mangaluru, with its numerous educational, health, religious centers, and beautiful beaches, has great potential for tourism.
He emphasized the need to consolidate these centers, including the Shivaram Karanth Nisarga Dhama, and create a schedule of events at regular intervals to attract tourists and promote tourism. To begin this process, the district administration will collaborate with the tourism department to prepare a list of tourist spots in the district and promote them through an online portal. Additionally, the installation of signboards at major beaches and tourist centers in the city will be undertaken.
The Meet the Press event was attended by Raviraj, the Officer from the Dakshina Kannada District Information and Public Relations Department, along with Press Club President PB Hariprasad Rai, DKWJU president Srinivas Nayak, also participated in the event. The program was moderated by Treasurer Pushparaj B.N., and Jitendra Kundeshwar proposed the vote of thanks.
