Mangaluru International Airport Implements ANPR System
- Plans Afoot To Convert All Entry/Exit Lanes Into FASTag Lanes
- Payment Facility Available At Parking Pre-Payment Counter
- Additional Emergency Lane Created at Exit Tool Booths
Mangaluru, July 15, 2023: Mangaluru International Airport has introduced the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the customer experience of its automated parking solution. The system plays a crucial role in the airport’s digitization drive, ensuring seamless entry and exit of vehicles through the implementation of e-payment technology such as FASTag for convenient payment processing.
The ANPR system scans the number plates of vehicles entering the airport via any of the four entry lanes. If a vehicle exits the airport within the designated free passage time of 10 minutes, the boom barriers at the exit booths automatically open. For those exceeding this time limit, there is an option to pay the prescribed parking fee either digitally or in cash at the central pay station located near the flag post on the lower ground floor.
According to the airport spokesperson, paying the parking fee at the pre-payment counter provides users with an additional buffer time of 10 minutes to exit the parking lot after scanning the receipt at the exit booth. The parking fee structure is categorized based on the duration of stay: up to 30 minutes, up to two hours, with additional two-hour increments up to eight hours, and beyond eight hours up to 24 hours. This buffer time allows users to avoid paying for the next time slot, if applicable.
Customers who have opted for the FASTag mode of payment and entered the airport through the dedicated FASTag lane (lane 2 at entry and lane 3 at exit) can also experience a seamless passage by using the dedicated FASTag lane at the exit. The spokesperson informed that the airport is in the process of equipping all entry and exit lanes with FASTag technology and anticipates the full implementation of this project soon. The spokesperson expressed satisfaction with the ongoing trial results.
In order to facilitate the smoother movement of emergency response vehicles, including ambulances and crash fire tenders, the airport has recently opened an additional emergency lane adjacent to lane one at the exit. This lane aims to ensure unhindered movement for these vehicles during rush hours at the existing exit lanes. The spokesperson emphasized that the airport is committed to prioritizing the transportation of individuals with medical needs.
With the introduction of the ANPR system, the expansion of FASTag technology, and the provision of an emergency lane, Mangaluru International Airport continues to focus on improving the overall customer experience while streamlining parking operations for the convenience of all travelers.
