Shirva, July 05, 2023: The NCC unit of St Mary’s college- Shirva, in association with the 21 Karnataka Battalion NCC, Udupi, organized the World Plastic Free Day today.

Dr. Herald Ivan Monis, Principal of the college, addressed the audience, shedding light on the prevalent use of plastic bags in our daily lives, even for small purchases. He highlighted the detrimental effects of disposing of plastic materials without proper recycling, both on individuals and the environment.

Dr. Monis expressed his appreciation for the NCC unit of the college for organizing a remarkable program and extended his best wishes for its success.

On this occasion, Cadet Pooja Shetty, who participated in the IDSSC-IGC camp held in Bengaluru, along with cadets Sonali Kulal and Hulidra Khushi, prize winners of the Ek Bharath-Shresta Bharat camp in Mysuru, were honored. Pamphlets advocating against the use of plastic items were distributed to the cadets, promoting awareness about the environmental consequences of such practices.

During his introductory remarks, College NCC Officer Lt. K Praveen Kumar emphasized the need for youth participation in averting the negative effects of human activities on the environment. He encouraged young individuals to actively strive for a plastic-free environment and raise awareness about various environmental concerns. He administered the oath-taking ceremony and provided guidance for the successful execution of the program.

Lance Corporal Shettigar Hemashree Sudarshan delivered an introductory speech, highlighting the main purpose and significance of the program.

St Mary’s PU High School ANO First Officer John william vegas, Lance Corporal Anish Bhat and cadets were present in this programme. Cadet Vishal Terence Vaz and Alister Sujoy Dsouza assisted. Cadet Kruthika welcomed the gathering and Adithi Acharya proposed the vote of thanks. Cadet Pooja compered the program.

The World Plastic Free Day event served as a platform to raise awareness and inspire action among the youth, fostering the creation of a plastic-free environment for a sustainable future.
