Udupi, June 30, 2023: A complaint from concerned citizens regarding the accumulation of a substantial amount of garbage, wood, and tree branches at the Matadabettu Vented Dam in Bannanje ward within the Udupi Municipal Corporation limits on June 28 has prompted action.

Responding to the complaint, the Municipal Corporation conducted an inspection of the site and identified significant obstacles caused by the overflowing water flow. To address the issue, the Municipal Corporation deployed earth mover in the evening, successfully clearing a significant pile of trapped tree branches. However, during the clearance process, some sections of the bridge railings suffered damage.

It is crucial for the public to understand that disposing of garbage, sticks, plastic, trees, and other waste into stormwater drains can result in artificial flooding. This not only leads to damage to public property but also wastage of public funds, and most importantly, it poses a risk to lives if individuals get swept away.

The Municipal Commissioner emphasized the need for public awareness and cooperation with the Municipal Corporation to mitigate such issues. The public is urged to take appropriate precautionary measures, ensuring responsible waste disposal and preventing the occurrence of artificial flooding. By working together, we can safeguard our city and protect the well-being of its residents.
