Shirva, June 25: 2023: The Computer Science department of St. Mary’s College, Shirva, in collaboration with the IT Club, organized a highly informative lecture on digital technology, AI, data science, and the vast job opportunities available in these fields. The event took place at the Fr. Henry Castelino Auditorium of the College on Saturday.

The lecture shed light on the significance of data science, which combines data mining, machine learning, and statistical analysis to address data-related challenges across various industries today. Kruthika, lead-HR from Cognitive Solutions, Mangaluru, who was the chief guest, highlighted how acquiring data science skills empowers young individuals to devise effective business solutions and make informed decisions.

Dr. Herald Ivan Monis, the Principal of the College and President of the program, emphasized the high demand for computer graduates in the present era of rapid scientific and technological advancements. He urged students to equip themselves with business skills during their college years, enabling them to meet the industry’s challenges and shape their future successfully.

Fadi, team lead of business operations at Cognitive Solutions, served as a resource person and conducted an interactive session, enlightening the audience with diverse knowledge on the subject matter.

Lt. K. Praveen Kumar, the Head of the Computer Science Department and Director of the IT Club at the college, stressed the importance of computer graduates understanding the evolving technological landscape and enhancing their software application design skills to meet society’s needs.

During the event, the college felicitated three outstanding students, Shetty Tarun Ramesh, Elrusha Milina D’Sa, and Prasidh Gopal Anchan, for securing placements through the Glow Touch Placement Drive.

Prakasha, lecturer, teaching and administrative staff, and students were present. Anup Nayak and Alister Sujoy D’Souza provided assistance in organizing the program.

The gathering was welcomed by Chandana, while Niveditha Nikhil Poojary proposed the vote of thanks. Deepthi and her team rendered prayer services, and Elrusha Milina D’Sa compered the program.
