Manipal, June 12, 2023: Kasturba Hospital’s Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology took a proactive step in raising awareness about non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) by organizing a comprehensive Free Fibro Scan and Education program.

This event, held in conjunction with the celebration of International NASH Awareness Month, aimed to educate and empower the general public on the risks associated with NASH and the importance of preventive measures.

Dr. Anand Venugopal, the Chief Operating Officer of the Teaching Hospital at MAHE, Manipal, inaugurated the program, joined by guests including Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, and Dr. Shiran Shetty, Professor and Head of the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, as well as Deputy Medical Superintendent.

Addressing the audience, Dr. Shiran Shetty emphasized the impact of lifestyle choices on Non-Alcoholic Liver Disease, with obesity and the consumption of unhealthy junk food identified as the primary culprits. Encouragingly, he highlighted the preventability of this condition and the significance of early detection. As part of the awareness initiative, the program provided free Fibro scans to individuals who were suspected of being at risk.
