Manipal: ACT Clinic Launched at Kasturba Hospital
Manipal, June 09, 2023: In a significant step towards ensuring comprehensive care and support for childhood cancer survivors, the After Completion of Therapy (ACT) Clinic was inaugurated under the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Kasturba Medical College and Kasturba Hospital in Manipal.
The initiative, in collaboration with the Indian Cancer Society, Mumbai, aims to address the unique challenges faced by cancer survivors, including late effects of therapy and psychological issues.
Dr. Vandana Dhamankar, Deputy Director General, Medical Affairs, Indian Cancer Society, Mumbai, inaugurated the clinic.
“Indian Cancer Society, Mumbai has a separate wing to look after survivors and provide treatment funds for late effects as schemes do not cover them. Such speciality clinics exist in only a few centres in India and this would complete the 360 degree care to childhood cancer patients,” she said.
At the launch event, Dr. Vasudeva Bhat K, Associate Professor and Head, emphasized the importance of enabling childhood cancer survivors to lead normal and productive lives, highlighting their role as future citizens of the country.
During the event, Dr. Emine Rahiman, Assistant Professor in the division, and Dr. Amrtavarshini, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, shed light on the necessity and importance of specialized clinics like ACT. Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, Dean of Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, were also present to lend their support to the initiative.
Dr. Archana M V, Assistant Professor in the division, skillfully hosted the event as the master of ceremony, while Dr. Swathi P M, Senior Resident, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks.
