Manipal, April 17, 2023: Kasturba Hospital Manipal is hosting an awareness education and free screening camp as part of Worldwide Oral Cancer Awareness Month. The camp, which will run from April 17 to April 21, 2023, aims to educate the public about the importance of maintaining oral health and the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, and gutka consumption.

Dr. Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer of the Teaching Hospital at MAHE, Manipal, inaugurated the program at Kasturba Hospital Manipal. Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, released an information brochure.

During the inaugural program, Dr. Devaraj K, Associate Professor of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, stressed the importance of early detection and the significant impact it can have on outcomes. He highlighted that the mouth is one of the most vital organs, as every substance consumed enters the body through it.

The free screening camp will be held every day from 10 am to 1 pm until April 2023. Dr. Suresh Pillai, Professor, Dr. Shama Shetty, and Dr. Kinjal Shankar Majumdar, Assistant Professors in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, were also in attendance at the event.

The general public is encouraged to attend the camp and take advantage of the opportunity to receive a free screening and education on oral cancer. Early detection and treatment can significantly improve outcomes, making this event an essential service for the local community.
