PM Modi inaugurates Shivamogga Airport
Shivamogga, Feb 27, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Shivamogga airport on Monday.
The new airport is developed at a cost of around Rs 450 crore. The Passenger Terminal Building of the airport can handle 300 Passengers per hour. The airport will improve connectivity and accessibility of Shivamogga and other neighbouring areas in the Malnad region.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for two railway projects in Shivamogga which include Shivamogga – Shikaripura – Ranebennur new Railway line and Koteganguru Railway coaching depot. He also laid the foundation stone for multiple road development projects to be developed at a cumulative cost of more than Rs 215 crore. He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multi-village schemes worth more than Rs 950 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He also inaugurated 44 Smart City Projects worth more than Rs 895 Crores in Shivamogga city.
The newly inaugurated Shivamogga Airport in Karnataka will usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for the region, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. Addressing a gathering, Modi praised the amalgamation of the traditions and technology of Karnataka, which he said was reflected in the splendid beauty and construction of the airport. He added that the airport was not just a place to take off and land, but a campaign where the dreams of the younger generations can take off.
He also touched upon the road and rail projects along with the ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ projects whose foundation stones are being laid today and congratulated the citizens of these districts.
He extended his birthday wishes to the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa, and praised his contributions to public life. The Prime Minister also mentioned Yeddyurappa’s recent speech in the Assembly as an inspiration for all public leaders. The crowd responded enthusiastically when the PM requested them to honor Yeddyurappa by raising the flashlights of their mobile phones.
The PM expressed satisfaction with the pace of development in Karnataka, citing the strides in roadways, airways, and digital connectivity. He praised the double-engine government in Karnataka and emphasized that development had reached the villages and tier 2-3 cities, which had been ignored earlier. The PM stated that the development of Shivamogga was a result of this thinking.
He reiterated that the airport’s inauguration was timely, as India’s enthusiasm for air travel was at an all-time high. The PM also discussed the expansion of the aviation market in India, highlighting the government’s policies that have led to its growth.
The PM praised Shivamogga as a land of culture, agriculture, and nature, known for the Western Ghats, Jog Falls, and the Agumbe mountain ranges. He also mentioned the cultural richness of the place, its Sanskrit village Mattur, and its centers of faith.
He noted the agricultural potential of Shivamogga and its role as an educational hub. He emphasized that the airport’s connectivity would provide a boost to tourism, employment, and the region’s economic activity.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Haveri and Davangere districts would also benefit when the Shivamogga – Shikaripura – Ranibennur new railway line is completed. He noted that Shivamogga is an educational hub of the region, and the increased connectivity would make it easier for students from nearby regions to visit Shivamogga. It will also open new doors for businesses and industries in the region, he added.
The PM concluded by highlighting the employment opportunities and economic growth that would follow the infrastructural development in the region.
