 Manipal to host Amrit Yuva Kalotsav

Manipal, Jan 29, 2023: “Amrit Yuva Kalotsav,” a three-day youth cultural festival to mark the 75th year of Indian Independence, will take place in Manipal, Karnataka from January 30 to February 1.

Organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS) at MAHE, the festival will showcase young artists and performing art traditions.

Dr. Sandhya Purecha, Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi, will inaugurate the event at 5.30 pm on January 30, 2023, at Dr. T M A Pai Auditorium at MAHE.

“Artists from across the country will showcase the diverse range of arts at “University Town,” of Manipal connecting with the youth and highlighting its natural multiversity,” Helen Acharya, Deputy Secretary of Akademi, and Prof Varadesh Hiregange, Head of GCPAS stated in a joint statement. Manipal (Udupi) is the first place selected in Karnataka for this celebration among many other locations across the country.

The events include Dholu Kunitha, Kalaripayattu, Bharatanatyam, Instrumental Ensemble, Yakshagana, play in Hindi, Siddhi Dhamami Dance, Hindustani and Carnatic music, Kuchipudi, Karadi Majalu and Choral Music. There will be a workshop on Art Critique to be steered by Dr. H. S. Shiva Prakash, Keremane Shivanand Hegde, Dr. Prabhakar Joshi, Dr. Vasant Bharadhwaj, Dr. Arthy Shetty and Madhu Nataraj.

Sangeet Natak Akademi is organizing ‘Amrit Yuva Kalotsav’- a series of festivals all over India showcasing young artists and the continuum of myriad performing art traditions. The Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS) is a constituent department of MAHE, which engages with interdisciplinary teaching and research. Ecosophy, Aesthetics, and Peace are its thrust areas, preparing students for art media. MA in Ecosophical Aesthetics, MA in Art and Peace Studies, BA in Aesthetics and Peace Studies are its academic programs.

The valedictory will be held on February 1 at 5.30 pm with guests including Dr. Giridhar Kini, MAHE Registrar, and Dr. Shobha U Kamath, Culture Committee Chairperson.
