Mangaluru, Dec 01, 2022: It was a special ‘Talamaddale,’ event at Ravindra Kala Bhavana on Nov 30.

While ‘Talamaddale,’ is usually held on Mythological or folk stories, Dr. K Shivarama Karantha Adhyayana Peeta, Mangalore University and University Evening College, Mangaluru organized “Yakshagana Thalamaddale on “Veeravanithe Abbakka.”

The Thalamaddale narrated the story of Rani Abbakka, one of the first freedom fighters of India who fought against the tyranny of the Portuguese.

Inaugurator Dr. Anasuya Rai, Principal of University College defined the program as an inspiration to the students.

Principal Dr. Subhashini Srivatsa the Co-ordinator of Dr. K Shivarama Karantha Adhyayana Peeta welcomed the guests and acknowledged the artists by honoring them.

Guest of Honor and artiste Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli spoke about Dr. K Shivarama Karanth and his love and experiments in the field of Yakshagana.

“This is a tribute to great queen Veera Rani Abbakka who stopped the Portuguese from invading Tulunadu,” he said.

Ganesh Kumar Hebri, Dayananda Shettigar Mijar, and Sudhas Kavoor were on the himmela. Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, Sanjay Kumar Shetty Gonibeedu, Ashok Shetty Sarapadi, Dinakar S Pachhanadi, M.M.C. Rai, and Harishchandra Nayaga participated in the Talamaddale.

M.Com lecturer Venkatesh Nayak composed the program. Students of M Com offered prayers. Teaching students and non-teaching faculty were present.
