Bengaluru, Oct 17, 2022: The decision to hike reservation for SC/ST communities has been historical to uphold social justice, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Addressing a group of SC/ST Community leaders of Karkala Assembly constituency led by Energy, Kannada and Culture Minister V. Sunil Kumar here on Monday, he said the demand to hike reservation has been pending for the last 50 years.

“Though several governments have come and gone none of them were able to take decision. But the incumbent government showed it’s commitment and took this bold decision with the co-operation of the cabinet colleagues, colleagues, BJP core committee and working committee. While reservation for SC has been hiked from 15 to 17 per cent and for ST from 3 per cent to 7 per cent. This will show the commitment of the incumbent government,” he said.

Bommai opined that the decision will ensure social justice to oppressed classes in the society which are denied of education and employment.

“Many people are giving many explanation to this decision but it is important that SC/ST communities have welcomed this decision. During the visit to Ballari, Hospet, Raichur, Hospet and Koppal districts, the people expressed their joy over the government’s decision. I still want to do many things for these communities in the coming days. Honest efforts will be made to do justice for several communities including the backward classes with utmost interest,” he added.
