Jayanand Anchan is new Mayor of Mangaluru
Mangaluru, Sept 09, 2022: Jayanand Anchan was elected Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation today. Poornima has been elected as the Deputy Mayor.
The election for the 23rd term of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) was held on Friday.
Regional Commissioner of Mysuru Division, Dr. G. C Prakash announced the names of the new mayor and deputy mayor after completing the election process.
MLAs Bharath Shetty, Vedavyas Kamath, corporators of the municipal corporation participated in the elections. In the council of 65 members, 62 members attended the election.
It was an easy victory for Jayanand Anchan with the support of 44 BJP corporators and 2 BJP MLAs (Vedavyas Kamath and Bharath Shetty Y). Congress candidate Shashidhar Hegde received14 votes of his party corporators. Two SDPI corporators abstained from voting.
Similar was in the case of Deputy Mayor election where BJP’s Poornima defeated Congress candidate Zeenath.
Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Akshy Sridhar and others were present on the occasion.
“In pursuance of the policies, I will strive to work hard to provide transparency in the functioning of Mangaluru Municipal Corporation and improve the civic amenities in the city,” the Mayor said in a statement.
Jayanand represents Kadri (Padavu) ward and Poornima represents Central Market ward.
