CM instructs speedy disbursement of Kisan Credit Cards for fishermen
Bengaluru, Aug 24, 2022: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai directed the officials to provide the Kisan Credit Card facility to fishermen in the state on priority.
He held a meeting of state-level bankers at home office Krishna today and discussed the issue.
In the first phase, Kisan Credit Cards should be provided to fishermen in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts at the earliest. The fisheries department should provide the information about the fishermen they have to the bankers and issue Kisan Credit Cards like a campaign.
“To increase the income of the fishermen, various benefits are being distributed to the fishermen by the Central and State Governments under Matsya Sampada and other schemes. Fish Farmer Producer Organization has been established and assistance is being provided. Self Help Groups of Fisherwomen will be formed to help them engage in income generation activities. Kisan Credit Card will play a major role during the disbursement of these facilities,” the CM said.
He also suggested that Kisan credit cards should also be issued through fishermen’s cooperative banks.
Officials informed that the project to assist in the purchase of deep-sea fishing boats has received an excellent response. As many as 185 applications have already been received.
Fisheries and Ports Minister S. Angara, state chief secretary Vandita Sharma, principal secretary to the chief minister N. Manjunath Prasad and other senior officials attended the meeting.
