Gerusoppa Ghat closed for vehicles
Karwar, July 16, 2022: Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada has imposed a complete ban on the movement of vehicles on NH 69 between Gerusoppa and Mavinagundi.
The incessant rain in the last few days has resulted in a landslide in the Gerusoppa Ghat section. A portion of the NH 69 has been damaged due to the landslide. As the stretch poses danger to vehicle movement, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan has imposed a complete ban on the movement of vehicles on this stretch.
The road connecting Honnavar and Siddapur Taluk is part of the Honnavar-Mulabagilu Highway.
As the Ghat section is shut for vehicle movement, the district administration has suggested the Honnavar-Kumta-Katagala-Sirsi-Siddapura route for goods and heavy vehicles. Lightweight vehicles have been asked to take the same route or the Honnavara-Kumta-Chandavara-Badala-Siddapura route.
Meanwhile heavy rain in Uttara Kannada has flooded low lying areas in Honnavar and Kumta Taluks on Saturday. Officials said that 334 people have been shifted to temporary relief camps in the two taluks.
