Jackfruit Mela in Udupi turns out to be crowd puller
Udupi, June 17, 2022: After the Mango fest, people of Udupi were seen actively participating in the Jackfruit Mela that was inaugurated on Friday.
Various verities like Red Rudraksha, Tubugere, Chandra, Yellow, Ekadashi, and Shivaratri were for display and sale.
“A few days ago we had Mango fest here and now in the same venue, the administration has organized Jackfruit Mela. It will help us as well as the growers,” Sahana of Udupi told The Canara Post.
“The jackfruit and the various products including sweets like Holige and Kadubu were the main attraction,” she added.
The other interesting products included biscuits prepared out of jackfruit seed, Jackfruit kabab, and Pappad.
Inaugurating the three day jackfruit and honey Mela at Raitha Seva Kendra in Doddana Gudde today Udupi Municipal Council President Sumitra Nayak said that the the Jackfruit Mela will be of great benefit to jackfruit growers.
“They can directly sell their produce to the consumers, said .“The farmers used to sell the jackfruit they had grown to wholesalers for a paltry sum of money, causing huge losses. To benefit the growers, Such Melas are held to help the cultivators of jackfruit, mango, and other such crops. Farmers should utilize such fairs,” she said.
Kalparasa and its products, Rambutan fruit, as well as Pure Honey were available at the Mela.
ZP CEO Prasanna H said that the government is planning to formulate many schemes to encourage jackfruit cultivation and Jackfruit Mela is one among them.
Horticulture Department Deputy Director Bhuvaneswari and others were present on the occasion.
