Udupi, May 20, 2022: The 61- day ban on mechanized fishing will come to effect from June 1.

As per the Karnataka Marine Fishing (Regulation) Act all fishing activities using mechanized boats and fishing using country boats with 10HP and above inboard or outboard motor are banned for 61 days from June 1.

Motorised boats with a capacity of up to 10 horsepower and traditional country boats are permitted to undertake coastal fishing.

Fishing boats and fishermen violating this order will be liable for penalties imposed under the Marine Fisheries Act, 1986. Also, such boats will not be eligible to get excise free diesel for one year. The joint director of fisheries department has asked fishermen to comply with this order
