Water sports activities suspended in Malpe due to Cyclone impact
Udupi, May 09, 2022: Rough weather has forced authorities to stop water sports in Malpe until further orders.
Due to the cyclonic effect, the Arabian Sea has turned rough with huge waves and strong winds. As venturing into the sea could pose danger, the administration has stopped the water sports and also boating to St Mary’s Island. The tourist boat owners have been asked to follow the instructions strictly.
Meanwhile as a precautionary measure the floating bridge has been partially dismantled.
“Due to cyclone effect and heavy wind we had disconnected the locks of the bridge so that the floating bridge does not incur any damage,” Sudesh Shetty, the lease holder of Malpe beach stated in a press statement.
“Because of this some of the blocks of the bridge were floating in the sea this morning. We have noted that people have fallen for the rumors saying there was casualties. We strongly confirm that there were no casualties nor any harm to none. The bridge is also safe. Currently floating bridge remains closed as the district administration has asked to stop the water sports activities,” he said.
