Emotional support through mentoring essential for students: Dr. Malini
Puttur, Feb 14, 2022: An orientation program on student mentoring was organized by Mentoring Unit in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at St. Philomena College, Puttur.
Dr. Malini, Professor of Chemistry, was the resource person.
“College students have a lot of aspirations, dreams, and expectations. They face a lot of emotional stress. If they fail to get love, affection, and guidance from their parents they may go out of track. In this context the mentoring by teachers is essential.” Dr. Malini said.
“The expectation from parents, teachers, and society add fuel to their emotional turmoil. Some students succumb to this stress and take extreme steps. The counseling and motivational words of the teachers help in bringing the students out of the mental stress” Dr. Malini explained with examples.
College Principal Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro presided.
“Teachers should imbibe good qualities and be role models to students and also the society. They have to listen to the problems and emotions of students,” he said.
Prof. Prashant Rai rendered the prayer. Coordinator of the mentoring Unit of the College, Prof. Edvin D’Souza welcomed and Dr. Dimple Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Nowlin Fernandes compered the program.
