Annexe Building will house Suma Genomics Pvt Ltd

Manipal, Feb 02, 2022: Manipal Centre for Biotherapeutics Research (MCBR) Annexe building was inaugurated by MAHE Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh and MAHE Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) Dr. M Venkatraya Prabhu on Feb 1.

“Manipal Centre for Biotherapeutics Research which comprises advanced research labs and state of the art GMP facilities has gained additional space by the inclusion of Annex Building. I am glad to note that MCBR Annexe will provide additional lab, office, and meeting space to the collaborating Pharma/Biopharma companies,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

“We are also extremely happy to welcome “Suma Genomics Pvt Ltd” to the 1st floor of MCBR Annexe,” he said.

Dr. M Venkatraya Prabhu said that the strategic collaboration between MCBR and Suma Genomics will lead to more industry-academia engagements at MAHE soon.

Suma Genomics is faculty entrepreneurship of Dr. Girisha Katta, Prof and Head of Medical Genetics at KMC, Manipal.
The company was incubated at Manipal Universal Business Technology Incubator (MUTBI) and graduated successfully.

“Suma Genomics is providing testing services for rare disorders, cancers, and precision medicine, and conducts cutting edge research in genomic technology. I am thankful to MAHE leadership for providing the opportunity to incubate our company at MUTBI and for providing new space at MCBR Annexe. We are looking forward to a mutually beneficial partnership in the education and genomic technology field with MCBR,” Dr. Girisha said.

Dr. Raviraja N S, Director Corporate Relations and Coordinator, MCBR said that some of the employees of Suma Genomics will be the guest faculty and Ph.D. Scholars.

“Some of our M. Sc. (by research) in Biotherapeutics students will carry out internship projects at Suma Genomics. Collaborative research leading to high-quality publications and patents are envisioned,” he said.

University officials including Capt. Belliappa, Col. Prakash Chandra, Dr. Shrihari Upadhyaya, Vittaldas Bhat, Jai Vittal, were present during the inauguration function.
