Inquiry ordered into Kotathattu incident
Udupi, Dec 28, 2021: The alleged assault by Kota Station Sub Inspector on Koraga tribal community at Kotathattu in Udupi district had attracted severe criticism.
Kotathattu is the hometown of Social Welfare Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary. Social media was abuzz with messages about the harassment on the Dalit family in the hometown of the Social Welfare Minister.
A departmental inquiry has been ordered into the case and the Sub Inspector and staff who were allegedly involved in this have been shifted out of the station, to the SP office with immediate effect.
A Mehendi party was being held at a house at Kotathattu near Kundapur on December 27th night. Amidst this, some public complained to the police about music being played loud after 10 pm.
The Station House officer had come to the place after which the sound was reduced. But the Sub Inspector Sathosh who came to the venue allegedly assaulted the bridegroom and his family members. It is also alleged that he scolded them at the station also.
With the message being circulated on social media, the incident dragged the attention of the public as well as the political parties.
Meanwhile, following allegations, a departmental inquiry led by DySP has been ordered into the incident and the SI and team who are accused of assault have been shifted out of the station to the SP office.
Kota Srinivas Poojary who got the news called the Western Range Inspector General of Police (IGP), Superintendent of Police (SP), and other officials spoke about the incident.
“Our government cannot tolerate such incidents. I know the family of the victim. They are all innocent. Strict action should be taken against the officers involved in this,” he demanded.
