Uppinangady incident: Section 144 imposed in Puttur sub-division
Mangaluru, Dec 15, 2021: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 has been imposed in Puttur Sub Division till midnight of December 17 after the protest by Popular Front of India turned violent in Uppinangady on December 14 late evening.
The PFI had staged a protest on Tuesday demanding the release of its leaders who were arrested by the police in connection to a case.
The protest continued and the number of protestors swelled by evening. Alarmed by the increase in the number of protestors the police asked them to disperse as Section 144 was in force in the station limits.
However the protestors from other places like Belthangady, Sullia continued to gather.
Police officials said that in the evening the protestors shouted slogans against the police and also tried to enter the station. They also attacked the police with bottles, stone, and sharp weapons. The police who tried to stop them sustained injuries.
Puttur Deputy Superintendent of Police Dr. Gana P Kumar was injured in the stone-pelting. Bantwal Rural SI Prasanna Kumar sustained a knife injury. CPI Umesh Uppalike, Woman PSI Omana, Constables Sharif Nadaf, Sheshadri, Kiran Kumar, Head Constable Harish too were injured in the incident.
The Superintendent of Police said that three cases were registered in connection to the incident.
Section 144 has been imposed in Puttur, Sullia, Kadaba and Belthangady Taluk of Puttur sub division.
