DK police arrest five in connection to photographer murder case
Mangaluru, Nov 30, 2021: Dakshina Kannada police have arrested five people in connection to the kidnap and murder of a photographer.
Jagadish Rai, who was a photographer at Mysuru had come to Dakshina Kannada on Nov 18 but did not return. His brother Shashidhar Kavoor filed a complaint about this with the Puttur Rural Police.
Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Rishikesh B Sonavane had formed special teams to probe the case. The police have arrested five persons identified as Balakrishna Rai alias Subbayya (59), Prashanth (28), Jeevan prasad (39) Jayalakshmi (58) and Jayaraj Shetty (47). All are from Puttur. Jayalakshmi is the wife of Balakrishna Rai and Prashanth is the son.
During the investigation, police got to know that Jagadish had come to see his property at Badagannur village on Nov 18. The accused kidnapped him in a car and at Nooji Bailu Pernaje road they killed him with a hammer and knife.
The body was later buried at the forest plantation at Muguli.
The police said that Balakrishna Rai had registered to his name the land related to Jagadish. Scared that they could face a problem if Jagadish came to know about it, the accused allegedly hatched a plan to murder him.
The police have seized the vehicles used for the crime, the hammer, and knife, and also the golden chain of Jagadish which was in the procession of Prashanth.
SP has declared a reward to the team that probed the case.
