Dr. Rama Mohan Rao Kalmady gets MAHE and OEU Alumni Association award
Manipal, Oct 26, 2021: The first MAHE and OEU Alumni Association – Late Prof. P N Srinivasa Rao and Late Dr. Babu Rajendran Oration Award and hybrid OEU Alumni Meet was held on Oct 24.
The event was organized by the Department of Ophthalmology Kasturba Medical College Manipal and Kasturba Hospital Manipal in association with OEU Alumni association Manipal.
The Oration awardee, Dr. Rama Mohan Rao Kalmady, an eminent vitreoretinal surgeon and innovator, MAHE Vice-Chancellor Lt Gen Dr. M D Venkatesh was the chief guest. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. PLNG Rao, Shaila Rao, KMC Manipal Associate Dean Dr. Anil Bhat, MAHE alumni relations director Dr. Rohit Singh spoke on the occasion.
The highlight of the day was a video where friends, family, and colleagues reminisced about Dr. PN Srinivasa Rao and Dr. Babu Rajendran.
Dr. PNS Rao was the founding head of the Department of Ophthalmology at KMC Manipal who introduced and conducted hundreds of surgical eye camps benefitting thousands of poor and needy people of the region.
Dr. Babu Rajendran was the first post-graduate alumnus at OEU Institute of Ophthalmology KMC Manipal. He was a man known for his integrity, who later went on to become the President of All India Ophthalmological Society.
The program was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Sulatha Bhandary, Professor and HOD, President of the OEU Alumni Association.
Dr. Yogish Kamath Professor and HOU, secretary of the Alumni Association read out the oration award citation. Dr. Neetha K.I.R. Associate Professor and Treasurer of the alumni association gave the Treasurer’s report. The program was conducted by Dr. Manali Hazarika, Associate professor.
