Manipal, Oct 1, 2021: Blood Center of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal observed National Voluntary Blood Donation Day today. 

A dedicated blood center van was flagged off and several recognized regional blood donor motivators were felicitated at the event.

Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao, Dean, Kasturba Medical College Manipal who was the chief guest of the program stressed on the importance of blood donation.

“Blood donation saves lives. It does not matter who is the donor of blood and who is the recipient of blood. A donor can be a recipient anytime and the recipient may turn healthy and become a donor. So donating blood without any desire is a great and important part of humanity,” he said.

Col. Prakash Chandra B, Director – General Services MAHE, Manipal, and Mr. CG Muthana, Chief Operating Officer, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal were the guest of honor of the program.

B.J.P. Yuva Morcha, Udupi City, Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane (R.), Udupi, Abhayahastha Charitable Trust (R.), Udupi, Vishnumoorthy Friends (R.), Doddanagudde, Udupi, Milagres College- Kallianpur, Manipal Technologies Limited- Manipal, Karavali Youth Club- Udupi, Hindu Jagarana Vedhike- Udupi, Sri Madhava Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management- Bantakal, Govt. First Grade College- Thenkanidiyur, Mahathma Gandhi Memorial College- Kunjibettu, Udupi, and Udupi District Vishwakarma Carpenters Union (R.), Udupi were felicitated for organizing and motivating people to donate blood.

Dr. Shamee Shastry, Professor and Head, Dept. of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion, Kasturba Medical College Manipal spoke about the need for creating awareness on special blood donation including apheresis donation and stem cell donation.
